Cui Tianlong, 42, a migrant worker from Guizhou province, has been awarded 1 million yuan ($160,550) after confirmation of his 10-year-old son Cui Yonglang's "Good Samaritan" act in Guangdong province, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Cui Tianlong received the money, known as a Good Samaritan consolation, at the headquarters of the Guangdong provincial department of public security on Tuesday, at an event attended by senior Party and government officials from Yunfu city and Xinxing county.

Cui's son Cui Yonglang drowned on August 10 after he jumped in a river in an attempt to rescue his friend Zhang Junwei, who was swept away while catching fish in Guangdong's Xinxing county.

Cui Honglang, Cui Yonglang's elder brother, also died when he jumped into the river to try to rescue his brother.

Zhang was successfully rescued.

Cui is the first person to receive a Good Samaritan consolation in the southern province.
