Police in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, talked a weeping 7-year-old into opening the door to the apartment into which her father had locked her.

Neighbors called the police after hearing the girl cry for a long time on the fifth-floor balcony on Sunday night.

The girl was locked out of her home by her father, who said he had to leave for a business negotiation. Police feared the girl would fall from the balcony so had a locksmith open the door.

It took some time to open the door, and the locksmith had to remove the cat's eye first. They talked and played games with the child for two hours before a relative of hers arrived.

The girl's father did not return although police called him repeatedly. Instead, he sent the girl's aunt to the apartment. She said the girl's father was divorced and was busy with his garment business, according to media.china.com.cn.
