Guizhou police discovered a new type of synthetic drug named "milk tea" when they confiscated more than 2,800 grams of drugs recently, the Guizhou Public Security Department announced on Tuesday.

Local police caught two suspects on June 5 and two others later, seizing more than 300 grams of the new drug and 2,500 grams of other drugs.

"Cracking the case helps us cut off a drug channel from Guangzhou to Guiyang and eliminate a source that provided drugs for the city's entertainment venues for a long time," an officer named Zhang from the anti-drug team said.

He said the new synthetic drug, "milk tea", is more difficult to detect than other drugs so poses added challenges for police.
