Beijing will start unified inspections and quarantine of imports and exports with its counterparts in neighboring Tianjin city and Hebei province on Tuesday, the capital's municipal authority on quarantine announced on Monday.
All export goods, whether from Beijing, Tianjin or cities in Hebei province, will be ready for delivery after they pass inspection and quarantine examinations in the cities of production from Tuesday, when the quarantine authorities of the three areas will recognize examinations conducted by the others as valid, according to the announcement from the Beijing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau on Monday.
Before the unified system in the coordinated Beijing- Tianjin-Hebei region, export cargo had to be inspected both at its place of production and by customs at its port of export.
In addition, for imported goods, some pilot cities will, from Tuesday, be permitted to have goods moved directly to the destination cities to undergo inspection from local quarantine authorities, rather than waiting a long time for inspection from customs at the port of import, as is current procedure.
The new procedures for the inspection of imported goods will expand to cover all cities in the coordinated sphere by Jan 1, 2015.
The three areas will also share an information platform, providing the same service for all companies in the region, the announcement said.
