A 44-year-old woman in the Nansha district of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, neglected to receive prenatal care before giving birth to a 4.6-kg baby, causing her uterus to rupture, Southern Metropolis Daily reported on Friday.
The woman, surnamed Tang, had an obstructed childbirth two years ago that led to a miscarriage. The newspaper reported that Tang neglected to receive prenatal care months before the miscarriage.
When she gave birth to the 4.6-kg baby on Friday, the birth caused her uterus to rupture, but both Tang and her baby are in good condition.
According to a doctor at a local hospital that is caring for Tang, roughly 50 percent of local pregnant women receive prenatal care before they give birth. The doctor also said that the incidence of high-risk pregnancies is much higher in rural areas of China.
