No child workers were found at a Chinese factory that is a supplier for the world's biggest smartphone maker, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, according to a preliminary investigation report released on Wednesday.
The report came two days after Samsung reportedly stopped doing business with the supplier, Dongguan Shinyang Electronics Co Ltd, a subsidiary of South Korea's Shinyang Engineering Co Ltd, following criticism that its monitoring of suppliers' labor practices has been lax.
The US-based China Labor Watch said recently that it found "at least five child workers" at the Dongguan-based supplier.
Local authorities have investigated 11 cases of suspected child labor during the past two months in Dongguan, but found there were no child workers at the Shinyang factory, according to the report, which was made public on Wednesday by the local human resource and labor authority.
