LANZHOU - More than 300 people have been left homeless after a fire ripped through a Tibetan village in Northwest China's Gansu province, authorities said on Thursday.

The fire broke out at 5 pm on Wednesday, engulfing 45 households, with another 25 homes having to be dismantled so a barrier could be built to prevent the blaze from spreading in Tholoi Village in Tebo County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, said a spokesman with the county government.

Only three households in the village remain intact.

The fire was extinguished at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. No casualties have been reported.

The local government has delivered food, quilts and tents to the 316 homeless villagers.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
