FM meets Myanmar counterpart in Nay Pyi Taw

NAY PYI TAW - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Myanmar counterpart U Wunna Maung Lwin on the sidelines of the series of Foreign Ministers Meetings on East Asia cooperation in Myanmar's capital of Nay Pyi Taw Friday.

Wang said it is of great significance that Myanmar set the theme for its rotating chairmanship this year as "Moving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community".

He hoped that under the joint efforts of Myanmar and all parties, the series of foreign ministers meetings will become a platform for mobilizing the strength of all sides to seek for development cooperation.

Wang held that China adopts the neighborly and friendly policy of enhancing unity and cooperation with developing countries. For this, China unshakably supports ASEAN for its development and growth and the leading position of ASEAN in the regional cooperation as well as the active role in safeguarding regional peace and stability.

Describing China as ASEAN's most important dialogue partner, U Wunna Maung Lwin spoke highly of the series of proposals for cooperation that China presented for the development of ASEAN- China ties and its grave contribution .

The Myanmar side would like to exert efforts in pushing further the development of ASEAN-China relations, he added.
