Files on 10 Japanese war criminals are to be released by the Shandong Archives Bureau between Aug 15 and 24 to mark the 69th anniversary of Japan's surrender at the end of World War II.

The files are being released to "tell people the truth about history" as set out in the criminals' confessions, said the bureau.

The bureau keeps files on 253 Japanese war criminals. In addition to the confessions, the documents include records of the procedures used to investigate their crimes.
