A woman in Hefei, the capital of Anhui province, failed a job interview because she was considered dishonest for touching up the photo on her resume with Photoshop software, Anhui Commercial Daily reported on Thursday.

The woman, surnamed Shen, 22, had just graduated from a university and posted several electronic resumes including a photo for jobs online. Shen received a phone call on Aug 10 from a large shopping mall in the city asking her to come in for a job interview the next day. However, when Shen went to the mall on Aug 11, she was refused a job for the reason that her face was very different from the photo on her resume.

"I took the photo with my mobile phone and embellished it with Photoshop in order to make me look better to leave a good impression with job interviewers," Shen said. However, the interviewer, surnamed Fu, said it leaves a negative impact if job candidates excessively modify their resume photos.

Jiang Wandong, a lawyer in the city, said employers would think people are dishonest if those looking for jobs modified their photos excessively.
