A number of top domestic and overseas race car drivers will compete in an international drift competition in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Sept 13, according to the organizers.

Drifting is an auto racing event in which a car's tires are deliberately made to lose traction, and the vehicle literally skids, or "drifts", around curves.

Advanced video technology will be introduced at the China Interactive Drift Tournament, which boasts a 300-square-meter LED screen at the Tianhe Sports Center to broadcast drivers' performance in real time, according to event organizers.

The introduction of advanced technology will boost interaction between drivers and audiences, the organizers said.

Also, organizers will introduce an international drift data system, which was designed by a British company and was used in Japan's Drift One Tournament, as the scoring standard for the Guangzhou tournament.

As a motorsport discipline, professional drifting competitions are held worldwide and are judged according to the speed, angle, showmanship and line taken through a corner or series of corners.
