TAIYUAN -- The standing committee of the Shanxi provincial People's Congress decided Saturday to accept Yuan Chunqing's resignation as its director.

The committee said in brief statement that the provincial People's Congress, the legislature of Shanxi, planned to have a meeting on Sept 29 to choose Yuan's successor.

Yuan, 62, is former Party chief of Shanxi.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China announced on Sept. 1 that Wang Rulin had replaced Yuan as secretary of the Shanxi CPC Provincial Committee.

Yuan was later appointed as deputy director of the Central Agricultural Work Leading Team, a top decision-making body for agriculture-related work.
