BEIJING - Tropical storm Fung-Wong has caused severe flight delays and cancellations in Shanghai, said the Civil Aviation Administration of China on Tuesday.

The transportation capacity of the Shanghai Pudong Airport was cut by 65 percent from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. after Fung-Wong, previously graded as a typhoon, made a landfall in Shanghai in the morning, according to the administration.

Flights to cities like Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province and Fuzhou in Fujian Province have been canceled entirely, according to the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines both confirmed flight delays and cancellations amid the tropical storm.

Fung-Wong landed in Shanghai on Tuesday morning, after ravaging neighboring Zhejiang Province Monday evening. It has since been reduced from a typhoon to tropical storm when hitting Fengxian District of Shanghai at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

It has been 25 years since the last typhoon made a landfall in Shanghai.
