A contest on campus security began on Thursday in Beijing.
Organized by the Chinese Foundation for Teacher Development and China Life, an insurance company in China, the competition includes knowledge, teaching and academic paper contests that all focus on campus security and safety.
Zhang Zhongyuan, chairman of the foundation, said the contest was organized at a time when accidents and other incidents on campuses have caught the attention of people nationwide.
According to Zhang, more than 20 such accidents have been reported since the beginning of the autumn semester.
"So we organized the contest in the hopes of raising teachers' and students' awareness of campus security, and meanwhile, to find better ways of protecting teachers and students from any possible danger," he said.
The contest will last until May 2015, and teachers and students of all grades, people who are responsible for ensuring campus security, and anyone else concerned about campus security may participate.
