Time runs out for vice-presidents

Six vice-presidents of Xi'an Jiaotong University in Northwest China's Shaanxi province have been stood down from their roles, the university's website announced.

According to Ministry of Education regulations, leading officials cannot hold the same position for 10 years or can no longer remain in office after they turn 58.

Zhang Maizeng, Party secretary of the university, said Jiang Zhuangde, Xu Zongben, Li Wei, Lu Tianjian, Yan Jianqun and Song Xiaoping could no longer be vice-presidents.

Zheng Qinghua, Xi Guang, Rong Mingzhe, Yan Hong, Wang Tiejun and Zhang Hanrong were named in their place.

The average age of the six officials no longer eligible is 58 and two had served as vice-presidents for 14 and nine years respectively, Huashang Daily reported.
