Disease strikes rare animal

Jan 4, 8-year-old female Da Bao died of canine distemper in the Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Research Center.

On Dec 9, 8-year-old panda Cheng Cheng died of canine distemper in the Shaanxi center.

On June 22, 6-year-old panda Xing Xing died of kidney failure and hemorrhagic colitis in Macao.

On Feb 9, 7-year-old female Jin Yi died of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis in Zhengzhou Zoo in Henan province.

In September 2012, a week-old panda cub died of pneumonia at the Tokyo Zoo, while a cub of similar age born at the US National Zoo in Washington DC died of liver disease.

On July 22, 2010, 20-year-old female panda Quan Quan died of respiratory failure in the Jinan Zoo in Shandong province after breathing toxic gas released from a construction site nearby.

On April 30, 2008, 23-year-old male panda Ling Ling died of heart disease in Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, Japan.

On Oct 8, 2007, 36-year-old female panda Tao Tao died of hypertension in the Jinan Zoo in Shandong province.

On March 26, 2007, 22-year-old female Chinese panda Yan Yan died of intestinal obstruction in Berlin Zoo in Germany.
