Taiwan bus collision injures 24 tourists

TAIPEI -- Two tour buses collided near Kenting scenic area in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan, on Tuesday afternoon, injuring 24 tourists from the Chinese mainland, police said.

A bus carrying tourists from Henan Province was about to leave the Maobitou scenic area parking lot at 3:05 p.m. when it hit an oncoming bus carrying a group from Beijing.

A total of 38 tourists were on board both vehicles.

Twenty-four mainland tourists, along with the driver and tour guide, suffered cuts and bruises. Both vehicles' windshields crumbled inward, Pingtung County Police said.

One tourist was rushed to hospital after losing consciousness but has since recovered, police said. The two groups continued their scheduled trips after the accident, police said

The two drivers showed no signs of intoxication, police said, adding that they are still investigating the accident.
