New Spring Festival trends reflect a changing China

Some Internet users say that blind dates, electronic red envelopes and the annual gala are the three most discussed topics during this Spring Festival holiday.

Dating websites were allegedly the most advertised service after traditional treats and dating parties or corners were crowded with singles and parents who were arguably even more enthusiastic at finding a partner for their sons or daughters than the singles themselves.

Some singles even forestalled awkward questions or blind dates by renting a fake girlfriend or boyfriend to come home with them for family reunions so as to save themselves from nosy relatives who care too much about their romantic relationships.
