BEIJING - Li Chuncheng, former vice Party chief of Southwest China's Sichuan province, was prosecuted on Thursday for taking bribes and abuse of power, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said in a statement.

Li was stripped of his public post and membership of the Communist Party of China for accepting large amounts in bribes, the party's disciplinary watchdog said in April 2014.

Li was first put under investigation for alleged discipline violations in October 2012.
