BEIJING -- A Chinese medical relief team has performed 321 procedures, and treated 1,832 injured people in Nepal, according to an official with China's health authority.

There are 133 Chinese medical relief workers in Nepal offering treatment, training and epidemic prevention, said Song Shuli, spokeswoman for the National Health and Family Planning Commission, at a press conference on Wednesday.

The workers come from southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, Chongqing municipality, and from a Nepal-based medical team, according to Song.

The team arrived in Katmandu on April 27 after the earthquake and performed their first surgery on April 29.

After a 7.5-magnitude aftershock Tuesday, Chinese medical relief workers have been plunged into a fresh round of rescue work, Song said.

Song also briefed on medical relief in Tibet which was affected by the Nepal quake, saying 150 medical and epidemic prevention personnel were dispatched there with no reports of major public health problems.
