BEIJING - China has played a constructive role in promoting the sound development of global human rights in 2014, according to a white paper published on Monday.

When attending the UN Human Rights Council's (HRC) sessions, Chinese representatives actively introduced the country's principles, policies and achievements in the human rights field, joined in the discussions of various topics, brought all member states' attention to the reasonable assertions of developing countries, and urged the UN's human rights mechanisms to deal with all human rights issues in a just and objective manner, said the white paper titled "Progress in China's Human Rights in 2014" issued by the Information Office of the State Council.

China conscientiously fulfilled its international human rights obligations, said the white paper. China accepted 204 recommendations, or 81 percent, raised by other countries during a HRC review in 2014, which received worldwide praise.

It said China continued to cooperate closely with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, promising to greatly increase its donations to the office in the period 2014-2017.

China also worked closely with other countries, holding human rights dialogues and communication to improve understanding, it added.
