Nearly 4,000 evacuated as rainstorms hits east China villages

HANGZHOU - Nearly 4,000 people were evacuated as rainstorms lashed parts of East China's Zhejiang province, local authorities said on Wednesday.

Heavy rain began to hit Lin'an city Tuesday afternoon. Several township were flooded, but no casualties have been reported.

The maximum rainfall in the city's Changhua township reached 115.5 mm at 11 pm Tuesday. More than 3,830 people in the township were evacuated while more than 70 houses, 82 km of roads and 30 vehicles were damaged.

The rain is expected to last for the next three days, according to the regional meteorological station.
