Chengdu to host international rowing race

Chengdu, capital of southwestern China's Sichuan province, will play host to the 6th China International Universities Rowing Race from Aug 12 to 18.

The event attracts nine teams from overseas universities, including Yale University from the US, University of London from the UK, University of Amsterdam from the Netherlands, University of Pavia from Italy, Queen's University from Canada, Saint Petersburg State University from Russia and University of Otago from New Zealand.

Three teams from China will also take part in the event. They are Xi'an Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Beijing Niulanshan No 1 Middle School.

The rowing race, held annually in Chengdu's Xinjin county since 2010, has become a traditional international event in Chengdu. More than 80 teams from 12 countries participated in the competitions.

To further enhance cultural communication and exchanges among different countries, the organizers also plan some cultural activities, such as a dragon boat race, photography contest and various celebratory parties.
