A man suspected of killing a resident and injuring several others with a knife has been detained early morning on Tuesday, Beijing police said.

The suspect, surnamed Song, 29, from Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, allegedly slashed a resident to death and injured some others with a kitchen knife in Xiaodian village in Chaoyang district in the capital. He was arrested, according to a microblog posted by the Beijing Public Security Bureau.

The post said that the police took action after they received residents' reports at around 4 am Tuesday.

The police shot at Song and later brought him under control on the spot as he resisted arrest, the post said.

The injured residents have been sent to hospitals nearby and the case is being investigated, added the report.
