An English education industry convention with the theme "outstanding educators" was held in Beijing on Wednesday.

The event, organized by China Daily and its affiliate 21st Century English Education Media, launched a new foundation and its first non-profit education program, in cooperation with China Youth Development Foundation.

Yao Wen, deputy secretary general of the China Youth Development Foundation, said the program will improve hardware and teaching quality in 10 village primary schools in poverty stricken areas in Baise and Nanning in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The schools will also receive help from volunteers.

Three panel discussions covered topics such as the comparison between Chinese and overseas education, online education and investment.

Zhu Jianmin, principal of Beijing No 35 High School, whose school has the advantage of multiple online education tools including platforms and courses, said students can learn different courses in subjects online as they like.

He pointed out that teachers prefer to lead students to put theories into practice rather than teach them by textbook.

The event also rewarded organizations and educators who made the best contributions in education fields.
