"Please try to understand my situation," Zhou Shengxian, former Minister of Environmental Protection, who was replaced several days ago, replied when asked questions about smog at a CPPCC workshop on Wednesday. He refused to comment on future action in environmental protection.

The smog issue has regained public attention as prominent former anchor Chai Jing released a documentary on air pollution that revealed serious lapses in enforcement of environmental protection just days before the two sessions open.
