Charity needed to tackle issues of human life and the environment

A world top charity leader said the aim of charity is to tackle the relationships between human beings and nature, between human beings and their lives and among human beings.

A Zi Rinpoche, head of Shenggen Kindness & Wisdom Foundation, chief meditation teacher of China Philanthropy Research Institute, said at a world charity forum in Hawaii on Saturday that charities need to tackle the worsening environment, problems of equality and personal feelings.

With regard to the driving force behind doing charity, A Zi Rinpoche said people do charity out of love, responsibility, or faith. In Buddhism, people do charity because they take the responsibility of delivering all beings from torment.

The meditation teacher said he believed the "second-generation philanthropist" (the offspring of rich parents) can contribute a lot to charity. On one hand, the rich can earn good reputations with their donation to charity; on the other, donations can dispel ill-will towards the rich.
