There is still a long way to go for ongoing healthcare reforms, the latest round of which started in 2009, aiming to assure affordable healthcare for every citizen, said Wang Guoqing, spokesman of the country's top political advisory body.

Wang, spokesman for the fourth session of the 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the remarks at the press conference on Wednesday, responding to media inquiries concerning why positive changes had not yet been felt by the general public.

"Healthcare reform is complex, long, and a hard systematic project facing not only China, but the rest of the world and the CPPCC members will constantly look closely into the issue and help the government with feasible and practical measures," he said.

Three vice-chairmen of the National Committee of the CPPCC will lead teams of members in conducting field studies and investigations in various parts of China into healthcare reform.
