An assessment mechanism should be put in place to evaluate the performance of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee members and a regulation on their services is expected to be issued in two weeks, a spokesman said on Wednesday.

Wang Guoqing, spokesman for the fourth session of the 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, was speaking at a press briefing ahead of an annual meeting of the top political advisory body.

A recently concluded meeting of the CPPCC National Committee Standing Committee passed an ordinance of work rules for its members, Wang said, in which specific requirements, concerning what services they should provide and their performance, were stipulated.

"Ten rules were made last year regarding how the CPPCC National Committee members perform,’’ he said. These included measures to ensure their rights, the roles of specialized committees and ways to deal with motions and proposals.

"The conference has always attached great importance to the management of its members and strived to help enhance the ability of their services by building up a system to regulate and standardize the procedures of their services," Wang said.

Wang urged the CPPCC National Committee members to learn more about the conference, improve their ability to provide political consultation and to be more involved in discussing government affairs.

He also invited the media and members of the public to supervise their performance.
