Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, will hold China's first night marathon on September 10.

The 2016 Shenyang International Marathon will kick off at 5 pm and end at 11 pm. There are four races – marathon, half-marathon, 10-km race and mini-marathon. The participants are expected to number 15,000.

"Besides the four competitive races, we will also have some entertaining events to attract more people to join in, such as Cosplay running, family running and couples running," said Yin Hao, vice general manager of Event Organization Beijing Branch of Wisdom Sports Group, who is the event's operator.

According to the 2016 Shenyang Marathon organizing committee, the night marathon, which begins in the evening, will give participants a backdrop of the charming cityscape at night. Moreover, running at night will reduce the impact to the traffic and ease traffic jams caused by the event.

The organizer will add lighting facilities along the track to ensure the safety of runners and meet security requirements.
