LHASA -- Days of heavy rain has caused a dam to burst in Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region, local authorities said Wednesday.

The dam in Lhaze County, Xigaze Prefecture, was breached on Tuesday as water in the Yarlung Tsangpo River rose. Water from the dam flooded three villages, with more than 100 hectares of crops and forest inundated, according to the local government.

Soldiers have been working overnight to repair the dam.

No casualties have been reported.

Since the high water season began in early June, flooding has left hundreds of people dead or missing in China.
