BEIJING -- Over 90,000 students from rural and poor areas have been admitted in China's colleges this year, an increase of 20 percent from last year, the Ministry of Education said Monday.

To recruit more students from rural and poor areas, universities have expanded enrollment, and introduced some preferential policies. Some universities simplified enrollment procedures, and give economic support to students from families with difficulties.

The Ministry has disqualifying all students who make false statements in their records and suggests universities recheck students' qualifications after they enter college.
