BEIJING -- Wang Baoan, former head of the National Bureau of Statistics, is under investigation on suspicion of accepting bribes.
The Supreme People's Procuratorate announced Wednesday that it had decided to take "coercive measures" against Wang. The investigation is under way.
According to Chinese law, "coercive measures" may include summons by force, bail, residential surveillance, detention or arrest.
The Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said on Aug 26 that Wang has been expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office for a serious breach of the CPC code of conduct.
