Building safety to be checked after deadly collapse in E China
NANCHANG - Housing authorities in East China province of Jiangxi will run safety checks on buildings and work sites over the next week, after 74 people died in an accident at an electricity plant last week.
The inspection will focus on construction projects under time pressure, public facilities and run-down buildings in all 11 cities of the province, according to the local department of housing and urban-rural development.
The department will send six working groups who will coordinate with municipal housing administrations to examine projects in progress.
Places with safety hazards, including large scaffolds, deep excavations and heavy lifting machinery, receive special attention.
The collapse of platform at an cooling tower under construction in Jiangxi killed 74 people last Thursday.
