Building collapse kills 5 in E China
JINAN - Five people were killed and another four injured after a factory building collapsed on the outskirts of eastern Chinese city of Jinan Saturday afternoon.
The building was part of a privately-run factory under renovation. The collapse occurred at about 3:30 pm on Saturday in Baigudui village of Jinan city, capital of Shandong province. Nine people were trapped under debris when the accident happened.
As of 7 am on Sunday, rescuers had found seven people, with three killed and the other four sent to hospital. The injured are in stable condition, according to local authorities on Sunday.
The bodies of the remaining two were found later. Rescue work ended at 8:30 am.
Police have detained those involved in the accident for questioning. Investigation is underway for the cause of the accident.
