Tourists who have enjoyed the fairy scene in the Ice and Snow World in northeastern city of Harbin may wonder how those big bulks of ice come from. In fact, they are from the real world, thanks to the hard-working men who dare to brave cold on the frozen Songhua River.
The workers are farmers from surrounding area of Harbin who try to find some job during the slack winter farming season. It's said that they can earn 200 to 300 yuan ($29-44) every day.
During peak time, hundreds of men are seen dragging ice on the frozen river. Each bulk of ice weighs over 500 kg.
