Heavy fog strands 10,000 at Chengdu airport
CHENGDU - More than 10,000 passengers have been stranded at an airport in Chengdu since Wednesday night, as flights have been delayed or canceled due to heavy fog in the southwestern city.
The city reported that heavy fog was affecting visibility around 11:00 p.m., and as of Thursday noon it had not cleared. The runway was closed for nearly eight hours and limited operation began from 8 a.m. Thursday.
According to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, 102 flights had been canceled as of 8 a.m., stranding over 10,000 passengers.
Another 60 arrival flights were forced to land in other airports or returned to their departure airports.
