Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged major countries to avoid confrontation and join hands in weathering the storm for all countries in the world.

Wang made the comment during a speech at the annual Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany, on Friday.

The annual gathering is a leading global forum on strategy and security.

As major countries have more resources and stronger capabilities, "it is their duty and obligation to play a larger role in championing world peace and security", Wang said.

"We would like to seek peaceful coexistence with other countries in the world and embark on cooperation," Wang said.

Speaking on the existing global challenges, the Foreign Minister named threats of terrorism, sluggish world economy, worsened regional conflicts, rising refugee crisis and the frustrations of globalization.

He said the international order and international system established after World War II are still playing key roles in maintaining world peace and development, and they should be maintained and championed.

When it comes to globalization, Wang said countries should not attribute all their problems to globalization, and should better guide and improve globalization to make it more balanced, inclusive, beneficial and sustainable.

Terrorism could be effectively addressed through international cooperation and comprehensive governance, Wang said.

"Resolving the various challenges facing the world currently requires insisting on multilateralism, consistently strengthening cooperation among major countries, perfecting the global governance, and pressing ahead various regional cooperation procedures," Wang said.

Wang also said China's Belt and Road Initiative is one of the most popular international initiatives in the world, and it will help gear up regional integration and promote joint development of countries on the Eurasia continent.

The Belt and Road international cooperation forum, scheduled to be held in Beijing in May, is a major contribution of China to global cooperation and global governance, and it will surely be a success, Wang said.
