Ctrip: Women spending more on tourism
Chinese women are spending more on travel than online shopping and luxury goods, according to a report released Wednesday by Ctrip.
A survey by the online travel agency found that tourism is now the No 1 choice for women in terms of leisure and entertainment consumption.
Plus, women are willing to spend more on vacations than men. More than 70 percent of women surveyed said they would fork out more than 10,000 yuan ($1,450) on tourism this year compared with 61 percent of men.
Twenty percent of women said they would happily spend more than 20 percent of their annual income on travel compared to 3 percent of men.
The survey also found more female tourists prefer to travel with close friends rather than their husband or boyfriend.
