BEIJING -- China's railway traffic during the International Labor Day holiday is expected to peak Monday with about 13 million passenger trips.

About 11 million passenger trips were made via railway on Sunday, up 5.4 percent year on year, according the China Raiway Corporation.

Local railway stations have come up with innovative approaches to speed up the flow of traffic. Railway stations in northeastern China's Shenyang city are using facial recognition technology to check tickets, cutting the check-in time by almost half.

Tourist spots across China received about 58 million people Sunday, raking in revenue of 33 billion yuan ($4.8 billion), according to the China National Tourism Administration.

About 130 million trips are expected to be made during the International Labor Day holiday from April 29 to May 1, up 11 percent year on year, according to the administration.
