Registration for electoral councils to elect NPC deputies concludes in HK, Macao
BEIJING -- Registration of candidates for electoral councils, which will elect deputies from Hong Kong and Macao to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), concluded in the special administrative regions Tuesday.
Thirty-six deputies from Hong Kong and 12 deputies from Macao will be elected, according to a plan released by the NPC Standing Committee this April.
Registration offices were opened in Hong Kong and Macao at the beginning of July to receive applications of those who want to become members of the electoral councils.
More than 1,900 people in Hong Kong and over 480 in Macao have registered, the General Office of the NPC Standing Committee said.
The election of the 13th NPC deputies from Hong Kong and Macao should be conducted by the NPC Standing Committee.
Current deputies to the NPC, China's top legislature, will end their term in March 2018, and the election of deputies to the 13th NPC shall be completed in January 2018, according to the NPC Standing Committee.
