About 10:30 am on Sept 11, Tuo Junqing, from southwest China's Chongqing, started his journey from Donggang, Liaoning province, the northernmost of China's coastline, to Fangchenggang, Guangxi province, in a self-made kayak.

He is the first person in the country to do this.

Tuo is a well-known extreme sports player in China, especially in kayaking. In August, he and his friends spent 15 days making a kayak with advanced GPS and power systems.

The boat is 5.8 meters long and weighs 30 kilograms.

"I will paddle along China's coastline, and the total journey is about 18,000 kilometers," he said.

"If everything goes on well, I can finish the trip in about 200 days."

Tuo will paddle alone on the sea during the day and rest on the shore at night.

His kayak has a solar panel to provide power so he can remain connected with the outside world.

Local media is following his journey and some of his activities will be live streamed via some social media platform.
