Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department has promised to further improve its support for overseas NGOs operating in the southern province in the coming years.

"Guangdong police welcome overseas NGOs to Guangdong to carry out activities under the framework of Chinese laws in the province, and police will try to guide and offer services to help overseas NGOs achieve their goals," said the department in a statement on Wednesday.

Meanwhile all the prefecture-level cities in Guangdong have set up special offices to help improve management of and support for NGOs in Guangdong, the statement said.

The statement was published after the department organized a special discussion with more than 10 NGOs in Guangzhou on Wednesday.

Police and relevant law enforcers introduced laws, regulations and rules, policies and management measures to the overseas NGOs attending the discussion.

Police also answered questions from the overseas NGOs, said the statement.

According to the department, Guangdong has granted registration certificates to 14 NGOs from South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong.

Police have offered support to more than 200 overseas NGOs in the province in the past few years, playing an important role in promoting NGO exchanges and cooperation.
