Hong Kong, Shaanxi seek further economic cooperation

A seminar focused on the prospects of economic cooperation between Hong Kong and Shaanxi Province in northwest China was held Thursday in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Representatives from various enterprises in Hong Kong, investment bank, venture capital institution, accounting agencies and scholars attended the seminar.
Poon Chung-kwong, president of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, said at the seminar that Hong Kong and Shaanxi are complementary in economic development.
As a major province in northwest China, Shaanxi has advantages in China's western region development, based on its strong scientific and educational powers, and contains infinite business opportunities, he said.
Given its priorities in capital, management, human resources and communication, Hong Kong can complement with Shaanxi in economic development to a large extent, he added.
In May this year, Donald Tsang, administrative secretary of theHong Kong Special Administrative Region, led a delegation to China's west region and visited Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province.
Poon said the seminar offers a fine chance for business community in Hong Kong and overseas to get better understanding ofShaanxi to participate in the high-tech development project in theprovince.
On Thursday afternoon, a high-tech investment promotion fair was held after the seminar, bringing over 50 projects in the fields of biotechnology, pharmacy, chemical industry, electronic and so on.
