Macao, Chongqing to enhance cooperation

Macao and mainland's Chongqing city signed 13 agreements Saturday for cooperation in investment, manufacture, hi-tech, tourism and other fields.
Officials and business representatives from the two cities alsopledged to enhance their cooperation in the future.
The signing of the pacts, involving investments totaling 776 million yuan, is a result of the visit to Chongqing by 125 Macao business leaders, as members of a delegation led by Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
Macao officials said at the signing ceremony that the SAR couldfunction as a bridge between Chongqing and European countries, while Chongqing could be a link between Macao businesses to enter China's vast western regions.
The two sides also agreed to add 16 Macao representatives to the Chongqing-Macao economic promotion committee.
Also at the signing ceremony, Macao businesses announced the donation of 750,000 yuan to the Project Hope for the building of three schools for children of poor families in Chongqing.
