Vice-Premier urges transformation of government functions

Vice-Premier Li Lanqing Wednesday called for vigorous efforts to transform government functions so as to create a good investment environment for the corporate world and sound work and living conditions for the general public.
The main functions of the government should be exercising macro- economic control, safeguarding national security and public order, improving the management of society, strengthening market supervision and regulation, and providing fine public services, Li told a group of lawmakers from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, south China.
The lawmakers, or deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC), are here attending the annual session of the Ninth NPC.
Joining the deputies in their discussion, Li said Guangxi should make full use of its rich tourism resources and natural conditions suitable for modern agriculture through improving the industrial structure and promoting modern farming.
He also expressed hope that Guangxi will strive to promote education and train more professionals for its social and economic development
