Motorola to Build Chip Base in Southwest China

Motorola will invest 375 million U.S. dollars to build an advanced chip production base in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Lu Haifan, general manager of the joint chip producer Leshan-Phoenix, said the project will start on August 8, when Motorola's chip product line in Malaysia will be moved to Leshan.
Lu said the joint venture so far has a total input of 250 million U.S. dollars.
Motorola entered China in 1987, and is the biggest foreign investor in China in the field of electronics, with a total investment of 278 million U.S. dollars.
