Construction of second grade Jinwu Expressway in Gansu Province
2003-07-25
Name of the Chinese partner: Jinchang Municipal Communication Bureau
Project description: The project is to construct an 88-kilometer-long second-grade Jinwu Highway, starting in the west from the Jindong Highway (connecting to provincial 212 highway), and ending at the national 312 highway circling the east of Wuwei city. The total length is 88 kilometers, with a width of 12 meters except the urban and suburbs area section of 15 meters.
Total investment: 271 million yuan (US$32.65 million)
Pattern of co-operation: Joint venture or cooperation
Project background: Jinchang city is in the east of Hexi Corridor, on the north of Qilianshan Mountain, and to the south of Alashan tableland. It is a newly developed industrial city founded on the basis of mines, nonferrous metal metallurgy and chemical industries. Now, it is the biggest nickel and cobalt production base in China and platinum group metals extracting center. Due to historical and geographic reasons, now the only connection with outside is the provincial south-north direction 212 highway. The cecum-shape communication net leads to municipal communication to be a blind alley and also affects the communication of Wuwei, Shandan and Inner Mongolia. The communications hinder the local economic development seriously.
Jinchang city is connected with Wuwei city geographically, historically and socially. The construction of Jinwu Highway can speed up the economic development and other social undertakings of both cities, and make exchanges of their own advantages to be possible.
Project progress: The project has been approved by the Communication Department of Gansu Province.
