China has made remarkable progress in reducing the number of people living in poverty in two decades, Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Tuesday.
Twenty years ago, China had about 250 million people living in poverty, but by the end of last year, the figure had dropped to just 30 million, Hu told a press conference in the Thai capital.
The drastic reduction of people in poverty in a short span of a little more than 20 years is no mean feat, Hu said.
Generally speaking, the living standards of the Chinese people is constantly rising, and China has adopted the policy of common prosperity for the people, Hu added.
