Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, known as the "Roof of the World", had 27,590 tourist arrivals during the Spring Festival holiday week that ended last Thursday.
That was a rise 6.8 percent from the figure last year, said Cering Toinzhub, an official from the Regional Office for Spring Festival Holiday Tourism Affairs.
The region raked in 22.26 million yuan (2.68 million US dollars)in tourism revenue, up 9.4 percent.
Domestic tourists accounted for the majority of tourists this Spring Festival holiday season, said Cering, who attributed the rise in winter tourism to promotions in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hangzhou, and introduction of air ticket discounts and major cuts in other service charges for tourists who visit in winter.
